H-E-B: Frisco, Texas
2022
H-E-B is one of the most beloved grocery stores in the nation. When Wanda was approached by them to contribute a mural for their first location in the DFW metro area, it was an honor to be an artist representing the Latinx community of Texas.
This mural is a celebration of Texas farmers, ranchers, our history, and our roots.
HEB is dedicated to working in harmony with the Texas environment and wanted the mural to reflect that passion for our land its gifts.
In tile making workshops, Wanda uses research and evidence based practices to promote healing and well-being for all participants.
The company was founded in 1905. Florence Butt opened the C.C. Butt Grocery Store on the ground floor of her family home in Kerrville, TX.
Wanda used photo transfers onto ceramic to depict the grocery vehicles from that era.
Many organizations participated including the Boys and Girls Club, the Frisco Fire Department, HEB staff, City of Frisco staff & families, South Texas Art Therapy Association, VFW, and the Art Centre of Plano on this project. This mural had over 300 participants.
Using art therapy workshops involving clay, the people of Frisco were given resilience and hope-based models of wellness and healing.
By centralizing and uplifting the voices of the community, these workshops gave them an opportunity to reflect on their past, their civic pride, and the path of their future.
This positive psychology empowers vulnerable populations and provides communities with spaces to build self esteem and find support for their unique challenges.
