Uvalde Love Project: Uvalde, TX
2022-2023

The Uvalde Love Project was a healing-centered community mosaic initiative created in response to the tragedy at Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022, in Uvalde, TX.

As a former educator, Wanda Montemayor understood the lasting impact the event would have on schools, staff, and children. Shortly after, she and her team traveled to Uvalde to conduct a needs assessment and found that many art teachers were interested in a year-long mosaic program centered on healing.

Through these connections, along with a partnership with Sister Dolores at St. Henry de Osso, workshops and clay programs were developed to support the community during a time of deep need.

The mural brought together over 2,000 participants through open community events, a homeschooling program, and tile-making sessions led by local art teachers.
