Lori Lockhart’s work in art therapy and counseling is rooted in a belief that creativity can help us make sense of our experiences, deeply connect with ourselves and others, and discover ways through challenging times. Currently completing her final Master of Arts practicum and internship year in Art Therapy and Counseling at Southwestern College in Santa Fe, Lori brings more than a decade of experience working with children, youth, and families as an art educator. She works with people of all ages, supporting individuals as they navigate change, relationships, and the ongoing journey toward becoming their most authentic selves.

At the heart of Lori’s work is a commitment to creating a safe, collaborative space where clients feel respected and accepted for who they are. Her person-centered approach recognizes clients as the experts in their own lives and honors the ways culture, relationships, and life experiences shape each person’s story. Lori believes meaningful healing can grow through trusting relationships that allow clients to explore their experiences, recognize their strengths, and move toward the changes they want to make.

Through art, play, mindfulness, movement, and creative exploration, Lori offers clients different ways to express themselves and connect with their emotions. She adapts her approach to each client’s needs, strengths, culture, and goals, supporting the development of self-awareness, coping skills, healthy boundaries, self-compassion, and confidence.

For children and their caregivers, Lori is especially interested in making therapy accessible and connected to everyday life. She helps young people communicate their feelings and needs, navigate relationships and transitions, and build confidence in their own voices. She also values working alongside caregivers to support children’s emotional growth and well-being.

Through her community-based art therapy experiences, including the Kerr County Love Project and Art Hive in Austin, Lori has seen the power of creativity and community connection. She strives to create affirming spaces where people of all ages feel supported, including members of the queer community and those exploring identity, belonging, and authentic self-expression.
